Chapter Twenty-Five, Saint-Jean-Les-Eaux Summary

The waterfall of Saint-Jean-Les-Eaux supplies the power to run the machinery for the explosion about to happen, the one that will kill Lyra. That is where McPhail has traveled, along with Mrs. Coulter, other priests and crew members, and Lord Roke, although McPhail does not know of the existence of the Gallivespian. There is a storm and it is hard for McPhail's zeppelin pilot to find a place to land. Roke hides inside Mrs. Coulter's heavy coat and the monkey tucks him in. Mrs. Coulter pretends that she cannot walk well and needs help. The young guard assigned to her will not unlock her handcuffs, but lets her (and Roke) know who has the key.
