Chapter Eighteen, The Suburbs of the Dead Summary
Lyra wakes first in the land Will picked for them to rest safely in, on their way to the world of the dead. Lyra asks the alethiometer how they should get rid of the Gallivespians, but the alethiometer tells her that their lives depend on the little spies. The alethiometer says they should follow the knife to reach the land of the dead.
Will and Lyra at first decide not to tell the spies what they are doing, and assert that the spies will just have to follow them. Then Will says they want a guarantee that the spies will not subdue them with their poisoned spurs. This infuriates the Gallivespians, who then say they will give the lodestone resonator to Will and Lyra, but Will and Lyra must tell them...
