Chapter Fifteen, The Forge Summary
The Gallivespians discuss Will and Lyra. Salmakia believes that they can gain Lyra's trust but the problem is, as ever, how to get the knife to Lord Asriel. They both suspect Will is up to something they do not know about. Iorek prepares his forge. It looks primitive compared to the technology available to Asriel in his adamant fortress, but soon the Gallivespians see that the bear-king is a master of metal-working. Iorek instructs Will in exactly what he must do to keep the fire hot, and has Lyra find stones that will release a gas during the process. Iorek instructs Will to concentrate because what Will thinks during this process is just as important as what Iorek does.
