Chapter Ten, Wheels Summary
Father Gomez has made his way into Cittàgazze and is talking to Angelica and Paolo who confirm that Dr. Mary Malone has been through. They also identify Will and Lyra, and talk about their hatred for them and how they stole the knife, and Father Gomez contains his interest and excitement so they will still talk to him. They comment on how the Specters do not bother him and Father Gomez speculates that his "sacred task" is keeping him safe.
The Mulefa take Mary back to their village and, since she is riding, she has time to observe that they do not have a central spine like nearly every creature with a skeleton in our world, but the unusual-seeming arrangement apparently works for them.
