Chapter Four, Ama and the Bats Summary

Ama, the little village girl, cannot forget Lyra, and so she goes to a wise man, a healer, and asks for medicine to wake someone up. She lies and says the medicine is for a family member, a boy of about twelve years old. The healer's daemon, a bat, goes to the powders and potions before the healer does, despite the healer's insistence that he see the patient first and despite questions about why the parents have not come themselves. He gives Ama the medicine and tells her he knows she is lying.

Ama goes to the cave to look at Lyra and hides form Mrs. Coulter and the golden monkey when they return. She sees Lyra begin to wake up and hears her speak. Then Ama watches Mrs. Coulter force the sleeping...
