Summary

In “The Check Ride – Sweetwater, Texas, 1943,” some of the male instructors at Sweetwater were mean to the women. They did everything possible to make them leave. Miller was such a bully to the women that one quit. Many women left their lessons in tears. Miller was the instructor giving Fritzi her first flifht check. In the air, he yelled at her and jammed the gear stick into her leg. He called her an idiot and asked who taught her to fly. Fritzi snapped. She flipped the plane over and flew upside down, did a barrel roll, then did 15 spins as she spiraled toward the land. At the last minute she pulled the plane up and went into a stall. Everyone was watching from the ground. Gussie recognized the tricks and knew what Fritzi was...
