Summary
In Chapter 38, Eve’s past and present merged when she saw René again. It was not until he shook Eve’s hand that he realized who she was. The restaurant workers were making a fuss, believing the reunion was a happy one. On the way to the table, Eve warned Charlie to stay out of the way. She did not want to take the chance that René would hurt anyone else she cared about. In their conversation, René referred to Eve as Judas while Eve told René he was a dupe.
