Summary
Chapter 32, set in 1916, describes how Violette, Eve, and Lili were sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in Siegburg Prison. Violette accused Eve of being a traitor, but Lili did not blame her. Eve had told Lili she did not remember telling her real name.
In Chapter 33, which returns to 1947, Charlie stared at René’s picture and hated him for killing Rose. By morning she met Eve and told her she would help track René down. In the car, Eve said René had told her once he owned a dilapidated villa in Grasse. She thought perhaps that was where he was living. As they drove Eve told them about her time in prison.
