Summary
In Chapter 9, set in 1947, Eve at first refused to stay in Lille, but Charlie insisted they stay there because she was the one paying for the hotel. She was also mad at Eve for having pointed out that she was pregnant. As they passed the building where Le Lethe was once housed, Eve said the building should have been burned down. Finn recognized that they needed to find to a hotel right away.
Charlie was awoken by a scream. She met Finn in the hallway outside Eve’s hotel room as Finn broke the lock and opened the door. Eve aimed and fired her pistol at Charlie and Finn but did not hurt them because Finn had learned early in his relationship with Eve to remove the bullets at night.
