Summary
In Chapter 5, narrated by Charlie, Charlie decided she, Finn, and Eve should first go to Rouen so she could talk to her aunt Jeanne, Rose’s mother. Charlie was upset because she had had to pay so much to have Finn’s car taken with them because Eve could not ride on trains. As Eve and Charlie stood together while they waited for Finn’s car to be unloaded off the ferry, Charlie asked Eve how Finn got a car like the Lagonda. Eve said he had probably done something illegal, and surprised Charlie by telling her that Finn was an ex-convict.
Chapter 6 shifts back to Eve's storyline in 1915. Eve waited in a café in Le Havre to meet her contact, a woman named Alice Dubois of whom Cameron spoke so fondly. She was surprised when a woman wearing a ridiculous hat...
