Summary
“The End of Me” begins with Dores’s titular song lyrics that address the pain of losing someone and the halt it brings to one’s life. In Chapter 19, Dores reflects on how the pain of losing such significant people returns to her often. She and Vinicius toured as Sal e Pimenta in their later years after their most recent recordings. They had decided to move back to Brazil when the democracy returned, but Vinicius was ill by then. As his memory faded, he wanted to hear their earliest recordings. Dores admits that, like Vinicius, she too listens to these songs to hear Graça’s voice.
