Chapters 27, 28 and 29 Summary

Chapter 27 begins with the story of Gene's uncle, Rolf, who disappears in Alaska. Gene believes that he saw the man once on a bus but the man walks into the woods and is never seen again. Julia tries to sleep that night but her parents stay up all night calling hospitals.

In Chapter 28, three days later, no word has been heard from Gene. Seth is also keeping his distance from Julia. NASA has decided to try to bring the astronauts home from the international space station despite the threat to their lives. Julia plans to watch the astronauts come home alone. Seth, however, interrupts her plans by asking if she plans to watch the rocket.

As they sit together to watch for the rocket, Seth asks Julia why she acted so odd the week before. She tells him that she believed...
