Summary
Chapter 11 is titled “Tank You Senora for Cure Me.” The travelers are surrounded first by a violent dust storm and then by a herd of cattle, which had gathered around the wagon as though either protecting it or feeling protection from it, or both. The travelers are then joined by Rosario, the gaucho herding the cattle and caring for the lamb he carries with him on his horse. Its mother, he says, had died. Rosario stays with the travelers that night, and China is told by Liz to milk one of the cows. Liz calls her Jo, which at first confuses Rosario, but then he finds out her actual gender identity and realizes it makes sense for her to disguise herself as a boy. Meanwhile, China has a moment of bonding with the cow she milks. Estreya enjoys himself...
