Summary

It is night, and Mrs. Oh is having trouble sleeping. She is in the house with her husband and their five-year-old granddaughter, Yeongsun, both of whom are injured. Her husband has a badly twisted pelvis. The grandparents are trying to take Yeongsun's mind off her broken leg, and Mrs. Oh feels guilty about the injuries.

The story flashes back to a train station, where the family was trying to get to Mrs. Oh's brother's house, but a Class One event is holding up the trains (Kim Il-sung is in the area). They have been stuck at the station for 32 hours. It is packed with people, and there is nowhere to sit down and food supplies are limited.
