Compass
The compass is a symbol of identity. At the Plague Doctor's insistence, Derby sneaks up behind Sebastian and gives him the compass to help Sebastian find his way to Blackheath. Later, Daniel shows Sebastian that the compass has his initials, SB, engraved on it. Thus, the compass belongs to Sebastian, and it is a symbol of Sebastian’s identity.
Turton makes references to the way the compass will point north regardless of the way it is oriented. North is a symbol of one’s true identity. Aiden spends his time in this particular loop trying to get in touch with his identity, his symbolic true north.
