Summary
In Chapter 11, the morning after Daisy met Diana in person, Daisy remembered when she had first met Hal’s father, Vern Shoemaker. Vern claimed he did not need cooking lessons, but Daisy knew differently when she saw how dirty the kitchen was as well as the evidence he had been eating only take-out. Daisy showed him how to cook his favorite foods, but she felt as if she was just an object to Vern. He asked if she was married and said he was interested not for him, but his son, Hal. Hal, who had arranged the cooking lessons for his father, called Daisy later to thank her and ask if he could take her to dinner to show his appreciation. Daisy slept with Hal on their third date.
