Summary
In Chapter 26, Rebecca visits her father, Doctor Greg Brooks, after dropping the children off at school. He tells her about his volunteer work speaking conversational English with immigrants. Dr. Brooks explains that he took a Vietnamese woman from the program and her children to visit a dentist, his colleague, for the first time in their lives. Rebecca thinks that her dad is both a great man and father. Dr. Brooks reveals that he felt special reading Rebecca’s work in the New Yorker and remembering that he had been with Rebecca during the event that inspired her poem Folly. Rebecca and her father discuss her strained marriage, noting that the tragic passing of Christopher’s mother further distanced him from Rebecca.
