Summary
In Chapter 16, Rebecca and her siblings celebrate their mother, Lorraine’s, birthday. Rebecca’s sister Christine and her husband, Tim, just had a baby boy named Michael. The women all stand together in Judith’s, Rebecca’s other sister’s, kitchen while the older children and husbands visit outside. Judith, an obstetrician, complains about her struggle to modernize her hospital’s obstetrics ideology. Rebecca offers Christine some hand-me-downs for Michael, and Rebecca’s sisters ask her about Andrew. Rebecca explains that she and Christopher have decided to adopt Andrew and reassures her family that she and Christopher are working with a competent lawyer.
