Summary
In Chapter 6, Rebecca and Christopher go on a date to the movies. They see a film called Hannah and Her Sisters. The women in the film remind Rebecca of those she has encountered at parties with Christopher. Rebecca contemplates how the movie replicates her feelings of disconnect from those parties. After the movie, Rebecca and Christopher eat dessert in a restaurant next to the theater. Rebecca and Christopher debate the significance of the black maid in the film. Their conversation transitions into discussion of Priscilla. They argue about the validity of Priscilla’s profession compared to their own. Rebecca wants to continue discussing race, privilege, and life, but acknowledges that Christopher has lost interest in the conversation and decides they should return home.
