Summary

In Chapter 1, Rebecca walks around La Leche hospital per her doctor’s instruction as she prepares to give birth. During her walk, Rebecca bumps into a woman stapling pamphlets to a bulletin board. The woman, unaware of Rebecca’s actual name, calls her “Mom.” Rebecca notices a magazine cutout of Princess Diana and her family stapled to the bulletin board. She compares Diana and Prince Harry to Madonna and child. Rebecca soon after gives birth to baby Jacob and introduces him to her family. A black woman named Priscilla Johnson introduces herself as the hospital liaison. She coordinates between the obstetrics nurses and volunteer lactation consultants.
