Summary
In Chapter 6, Finkel describes how Adam finds and fixes up an aluminum skiff. When he first returned home from the service, he had bought a good boat. When he and Saskia had taken it out on the lake they were the people they had wanted to be. They did not fight. Zoe was happy. Because of their monetary struggles, however, the boat was repossessed. Adam attaches a trolling motor to the skiff. Saskia looks at it and says she will not go near it. He gets it in the water and floats along on the current, feeling good until he realizes the motor does not work. He decides the battery is dead. There is no money for a new battery.
