Glisselda’s Court

Glisselda’s Court is where the first third of the novel takes place alongside Tess’ home in the town outside. This is where Tess spends two years trying to get Jeanne a husband after she had her own baby, thus losing the inheritance. This is also where Tess learns that Seraphina is pregnant, just like she was, and where the Countess offers Tess a spot on the expedition that she turns down. Tess finally leaves from one of Glisselda’s summer homes when Seraphina encourages her to do so.
