Summary

Pathka and Rowan are gravely injured as the villagers arrest Reg. Kikiu leaves a steel jaws in Rowan’s leg and says Pathka needs help. Tess is weary, believing that Kikiu came back to bite Pathka again. The nuns stitch up Rowan and arrest him. However, Pathka will need a few weeks before he can travel and Tess explores the area and helps in the hospice. She feels she is responsible for Pathka’s injury and hopes to find a cavern so Pathka can contact Anathuthia. The nuns recommend a cave called Big Spooky, but Pathka is too hurt to go.

Kikiu, who had stayed by Pathka’s side for two weeks, finds her bite enhancer. She says she left Trowebridge, but Pathka calls the bite enhancer unnatural even though Kikiu felt she was living like Pathka wanted her to. This hurts...
