Summary
In Chapter 15, Jim and Garth remain in the river for hours. They must work at pulling themselves out after dark, the cold making them stiff and clumsy. They know Sellum's group will be waiting and are afraid each time they see someone, uncertain who they can trust. Cornered, they run into a merchant's tent and the man, Tugoth, hides them by misleading one of the men chasing them. Garth explains that they saw a plot involving the Kingmen and asks the man to bring Teancum. Tugoth asks why he should help the boys and they point out his Nephite background. It is clear he is only interested in money. One of the Kingmen returns, however, and Tugoth kills him, meaning all three of them must be on the run. Tugoth helps them hide in an abandoned dog pen and finally agrees to go...
