Head
The head are a symbol of exploitation. Instead of calling the head what they are, "humans bred as animals for consumption," Marcos's society refers to them using the head euphemism (3). In this way, they are able to desensitize themselves to the grisly nature of their cannibalistic practices following the Transition. The head is evidence of the ways in which Marcos and his fellow citizens have deemed other humans inhuman.
Transition
The Transition is symbolic of societal change. Although the Transition marks a cultural turn towards violence and exploitation, the euphemistic temporal label allows the citizens of the narrative world to regard it as positive. The Transition is presented as a transformative phase.
