Summary
In Part II, Chapter 1, eight months later, Marcos wakes up feeling unwell. Anticipating his meeting with “a member of the Church of the Immolation,” he “can’t sleep” (124). He makes room for Jasmine, the female, on the sofa. Ever since impregnating her and bringing her into his home, “his work has suffered” (124). She is due in one month.
In Chapter 2, while making tea with Jasmine, Marcos recalls his efforts to domesticate Jasmine. “Her fear” has since “turned into wonder” (126). Because she has the FGP mark “on her forehead,” he keeps Jasmine locked “in the house” while he works so no one will discover the truth (127).
