Henry Island
Henry Island is one of the San Juan islands of San Juan County, in Washington. It lies just off the shore of San Juan Island. It is characterized as sheltered and isolated from the mainland. As the novel progresses, it becomes a site of horror and death and -- worst of all -- a place the characters cannot escape. They are trapped. The loss of the Internet, the absence of any more ferries, and the power-outage plunge them into greater danger. Furthermore, the feel of being cut off from civilization by a raging storm leads to fear and panic. The mystery of the island calls to Meg, even as it haunts her.
