Dr. David Beck

David is a pediatrician known to most of his friends simply as "Beck." After David decides that he wants to be a doctor, he considers specialties and decides that he'll become a surgeon because of the "wow" factor - that his friends will be impressed if he's a surgeon. As reality sets in, David chooses to be a pediatrician because he loves working with children. An important aspect of David's personality is seen in the fact that he doesn't choose to work in a large pediatric clinic, but instead works in a small clinic catering to the needs of the poor. He sees many poor, undereducated teenage girls with babies, young girls who have multiple children by multiple fathers who are equally young, poor and undereducated.
