Chapters Thirteen through Twenty-One Summary
In chapter thirteen, Hester and Shauna talk over the situation with Hester, saying that the police believe David killed Elizabeth and Shauna saying he would never have killed her. Shauna seems about to tell Hester about the emails but says only that Hester should ask David for additional information. Meanwhile, agents Carlson and Stone are talking about the case and Carlson says that he feels they are missing something in their analysis. They visit with Hoyt and Kim Parker and show Hoyt the photos of Elizabeth with the bruises. Kim says David wouldn't have hurt Elizabeth. When Kim leaves the room, the officers tell Hoyt they believe David is Elizabeth's murderer.
In chapter fourteen, David goes to get his car and sees a man in a tan overcoat loitering near the garage. He wonders about the man...
