Chapters Six through Twelve Summary
In chapter six, David visits the Parker house. They still live in the house where they'd lived when David and Elizabeth were children. David thinks of Kim, Elizabeth's mother, as a beautiful woman. David recalls that the couch that is still in the house had been where David and Elizabeth had sat as children, sharing their childhood dreams and eventually their goal of becoming a lawyer and a doctor. On this day when David visits, Kim asks if David is seeing anyone, a deviation from the typical impersonal conversation the two share. She then says that it's okay for David to move on, and he says that he has dated some. Hoyt arrives home and David senses disapproval.
