Summary
In Book 4, Chapter 8, three weeks later, Larry is released from the hospital. Jim stays at his apartment and they spend time talking and making amends. Jim starts to feel better. Then one day he tells Larry he is the one who actually killed his father. After it happened, he pushed Bob into the driver’s seat and blamed it on him. Larry accuses him of being evil and demands that he leave. Afterwards, Jim calls Bob.
In Chapter 9, Bob meets with Katherine. He tells her again about his father’s death and asks if his or Jim’s memory is more accurate (271). Katherine is a therapist and social worker and tells Bob about studies on memory and trauma (271). They realize Bob, Jim, and Susie remember the day differently. Bob leaves Katherine’s office convinced they will never know “who was responsible” (272).
