Summary

In Book 3, Chapter 1, Bob continues working on Matt’s case. He calls Olive one day to ask for information she said she had about the Beaches but she insists she knows nothing and hangs up. Olive has been depressed ever since learning that her best friend Isabelle Goodrow is moving to California to live with her daughter Amy. Olive writes Isabelle a note, calling upon something Lucy said to her about love and connection and leaves it with Isabelle’s nurse. Meanwhile, she curses Amy for taking her friend and considers killing herself. On Sunday, Isabelle calls Olive to say she is staying in Crosby because “Maine is [her] home” (173). Relieved, Olive rushes to see Isabelle.
