Point of View
The novel is written primarily in the third-person, closely following the perspective of multiple alternating characters, with occasional first-person chapters written from K.C.’s point of view. Each of the characters has a very distinct point of view that reflects their internal narrative. In addition to K.C., Everly Lederer, Rachel K, and Christian de La Maziere are the three primary protagonists of the novel, and their points of view dominate the novel. Each of these points of view are distinguished by unique tonal shifts that reflect the varied personalities of these main characters. Everly Lederer’s point of view often has a dream-like quality, reflecting her creative, head-in-the-clouds personality as well as the way her adult self has begun to lose a firm hold on her memories of Cuba.
