Chapter 5 Summary
Rosemary visits Ria. Rosemary says that Bernadette will never be anything to the children. Rosemary, like Polly, does not think that the relationship will last. Rosemary is dismayed to learn that Ria would take Danny back.
Finola Dunne, Bernadette's mother, supports her daughter in this new relationship although she is not keen on her daughter having become pregnant by a married man. Finola inquires about the children. Finola admires the new house Bernadette and Danny have, due in part to the will of Barney McCarthy.
Ria arrives in Stoneyfield and follows Marilyn's directions. Marilyn arrives in Dublin and meets Colm.
Annie and Brian move to Danny's new house. Bernadette says little and the children are unsure how to behave or what to do.
