“Tam Lin Remembers the Faerie Queen” by Theodora Goss is a free-verse narrative poem that first appeared in Enchanted Living (formerly Faerie Magazine) in 2021. It was later included in Goss’s volume The Collected Enchantments under the alternate title “Tam Lin Remembers the Fairy Queen.” This poem draws from the folklore of the traditional Scottish story of Tam Lin, a man who was imprisoned by a fairy queen and rescued by his brave, pregnant lover Janet. It continues forward after the events of the older story, following Tam Lin into his mundane life and his struggle to adapt after emerging from fairyland.
