Summary

Each novel of this series opens with a map of Pyrrhia and a brief overview of the seven dragon tribes that inhabit this land. There is also a formal welcome letter to the Jade Mountain Academy and the Jade Mountain Prophecy, issued by a NightWing named Moon. This prophecy predicts shaking and scorching and the fall of Jade Mountain “Unless the lost city of night can be found” (18).

The Prologue takes place three years earlier. Coral is queen of the SeaWing, and her mate is Gill. They have almost 30 sons, but all their daughters have been killed before they hatch in the royal hatchery. Gill encounters some of his sons but cannot even remember their names.
