Summary
In Part II, Chapter 29, “Montgomery, 1973,” Civil eats with Ty and Alicia. Ty explains that Lou is trying to find out how many other girls were also forcibly sterilized. The friends also discuss Senator Ted Kennedy’s desire to support their case and his invitation for them to come to Washington.
Civil helps the Williamses pack for the Washington trip. Erica tells her that she has been praying for “a baby one day” (203).
In Chapter 30, Civil and the Williamses meet Lou and the senator in Washington (206). They explain the case to Ted and he ensures that they are “ready to testify under oath” (211).
