Chapter 41 Summary

When China Cloud returns to Macao, Culum and Tess are married. Liza appears to ask Dirk if she could sail with them, taking Gorth's body back to Hong Kong. Culum appears and tells Liza that it was his idea that he and Tess elope and that he ordered Captain Orlov to perform the ceremony. They go below so Liza can talk to Tess.

Dirk tells Culum of the trouble with Gorth and what has happened. It was Gorth who set Culum up. Culum is upset at the information and gives Dirk letters from Skinner and Gordon Chen. Culum won't let Liza take Tess home because Tess is his wife now. They were legally married, even if it was without her father's permission.
