Chapter 14 Summary

Culum goes to the knoll the next morning to meet his father. Dirk tells Culum of the pirate attack on Brock's ship. Dirk had gone to see Brock after the attack and was told that he lost seven men and the captain. Nygrek Thumb is listed among the casualties. Culum, in an outburst, twists the meaning of Dirk's comment about the knoll, and says if Dirk kills him he will hang for murder. In response to Dirk's asking if Culum thinks he would kill him, he replies he thinks he would if he got in Dirk's way. Culum says his opinion of Dirk has changed in the last month since he has been in the Orient.
