Chapters 9-10 Summary
The quest to solve the puzzle continues at Redwall in Chapter 9. In a dream, Mhera seems to hear Martin the Warrior give her a clue and she awakens to realize that "L.H.C' stands for the "lantern holder column" on the side of the tapestry. Finding a gap in the wall where something might have been hidden, she asks Brother Hoben, the recorder who cares for the tapestry, if he has ever found anything in the gap. He says he has and gives Mhera a piece of slate that has another poem written on it. Unable to decipher the poem's meaning, Mhera reads it out to the collected Redwall creatures at a large meal. Together they determine that the poem makes reference to the directions of the compass, but it ends with a mysterious reference to something that "sounds" burnt...
