Summary
Chapter 41
Both sides make their opening arguments. Jake begins by putting Ozzie on the stand and showing the suicide note and funeral instructions found after Seth’s suicide. Jake then calls Calvin Boggs, the worker who found Seth’s body. Jake then calls the county coroner and then his ex-secretary, Roxy, who testifies to the arrival of the letter containing Seth’s will. Jake then enters the letter and the will into evidence. Quince Lundy testifies to the inventory of the estate and its net worth.
Chapter 42
Lucien returns to the hospital to find Ancil missing. Later that night, however, Ancil finds him. In court, Jake proceeds by interviewing churchgoers who saw Seth the day he died. Jake then puts Seth’s oncologist on the stand who spoke of Seth’s illness and his reluctance to take his pain meds. Jake then calls...
