Summary

In Chapter 14, Lena's next letter tells Diamond how glad she is to hear that Diamond wants to travel, as she also loves traveling and has gone many places with her friend Tilly. Tilly has “been encouraging [Lena] to reach out” to Diamond for years and is glad for their newfound connection (176). Lena is also thankful for their correspondence.

In Chapter 15, Clara writes to Sweetie about her relationship with the Frenchman, Jacques. They form a connection and start spending time together in secret. Then one night, Jacques arranges for them to go to the river together. They have a picnic, chat in the moonlight, and share their first kiss (181).

In Chapter 16, “1980,” Diamond and her parents stop at Adventureland, an amusement park in Connecticut. Ma is reluctant to go, but Pop insists they need some fun and tells Diamond to bring her Tooth Fairy money...
