Diabetes in Teens

Diabetes is the theme of the whole novel. The author knows a lot about the subject, and because the protagonist is a diabetic, the reader learns about the disease and all of the risks associated with it. Although the reader may be familiar with how diabetes works in adults, it is completely different for a teenager to have it. There are actually two characters in the novel that have diabetes, Sandy and Lucy. The author uses Sandy as a contrast to Lucy. Unlike Lucy, Sandy is in control of her diabetes and isn't afraid to talk about it. Sandy is not scared of people judging her because of her illness because she knows that it most people just don't know anything about the disease. Sandy takes every opportunity she has to inform everyone about diabetes. Lucy is the polar opposite of Sandy in every way. Lucy...
