Chapter 23, One Night of Love Summary
Suzy and Doc go to Sonny Boy's which is a nice restaurant where to Suzy's relief, none of the people seem to know her. The waiter discreetly lets Doc know that all the arrangements that his "secretary", meaning Fauna, had asked for had been made. Things are going well, Suzy is taking Fauna's advice and refraining from resisting Doc's help and Doc is noticing and liking the contrast from the last time he saw Suzy. As the night goes on and they have some drinks that Doc says may contain rattlesnake venom and opium, they both start to relax and Suzy discovers that she enjoys things better by going in slow motion. For dinner they have a meal of crab and pompano, suddenly Suzy comes to the realization that they have "eaten their horoscopes". She...
