Chapter 19, Sweet Thursday (1) Summary

This Chapter begins with examples of how this day was better than any day, giving examples of how unusually good things were happening all over Cannery Row. Today is the day that Mack and his friends carry out the first step in their scheme. Mack goes over to Lee Chong's grocery to talk to Joseph and Mary. Joseph and Mary is suspicious of what Mack wants to talk about but Mack is able to keep his composure despite how nervous he is because he is trying to find out if he knows that he owns the Palace Flophouse. Mack tells Joseph and Mary that he is worried about Doc, and in an effort to make Doc feel better, him and his friends are going to raffle the Palace Flophouse and rig the raffle so that Doc wins.
