Chapter 14, Lousy Wednesday Summary
While Mack is at Wide Ida's waiting for Eddie to sneak him free drinks, he overhears Wide Ida complaining about having to pay taxes. Mack for some reason starts thinking about taxes once home at the flophouse and that if Lee Chong, who was the owner of the Flophouse and rented it to Mack and his fiends-without actually collecting the money, then sold the grocery to Joseph and Mary, the flophouse must have gone with it. Knowing that Joseph and Mary was the type that would want his moneys worth of anything he paid for, Mack knew that him and his friends were at risk of losing their home.
