Point of View

The point of view of Swan Song is set through the minds of Truman’s Swans: Babe, Gloria, C.Z., Lee, Marella and Slim. Consequently, the reader is never given an unbiased account of the characters, as the Swans give their opinions and share different versions of stories. The point of view is thus extremely unreliable. The narrator is one which holds malicious opinions of Truman and actively prays for his downfall. Throughout Swan Song, the audience sees the narrator not only actively rooting against Truman, but also engaging with him in a salacious manner. Therefore, the ability of the narrator to present to the audience an unbiased point of view is seriously drawn into questions and it forces the reader to engage in drawing their own conclusions by recognizing the biases.
