Summary
Chapter 8 opens with a commentary on the groups’ constant wanderlust and their need to travel. No one is more prone to this than Gianni, he is always on the move. One evening, the group is in Salzburg, attending a performance of Don Giovanni. Keeping in mind the womanizing of Gianni, the group notes the similarities between Marella and Gianni and the story of Don Giovanni.
Marella is still struck by Truman’s insults to her on the Agenta, and she promises never to repeat them. After the incident, Truman gives Marella a gift which she tries to decline, but Truman insists, mocking her by saying that the book’s story resemble her problems with Gianni. Back aboard the Agneta, Marella locks herself in her room, angry at Truman and resentful that she ever disclosed so much information to him.
