Summary

It is 1933, and Truman is preparing to move to New York City to meet his mother who has married at Latino man, Joe Capote. The boy is celebrating his move with a Halloween party. To prepare for the party, he has kept a notebook with the name of every child in town, deciding whether or not to invite them by placing a star or line by their name. In the notebook, he writes his thoughts about the other children, who are well aware of the boy’s notebook and party, and compete to be included on the invite list. Truman brags to the other kids about his mother bringing him to New York. Although many people do not believe his stories of New York, no one has the courage to tell the boy.
