Summary

Back at Swamplandia! the girls did as they pleased without Kiwi or the Chief there. One day while cutting down melaleuca samplings the girls spotted an old dredging boat on the bank of their island. Ava tells how the melaleuca had been introduced to the island by the Army Corps of Engineers in an effort to drain the islands. The melaleucas had taken over the islands. When the sisters reached the boat, they saw it was a dredge like those used in the dredge and drain campaign from 1886-1942. Ava noticed there were buzzards everywhere. They went into the cabin of the boat which was full of moths. Ava’s mind kept telling her the boat was haunted. Among the items on board was a WPA jacket, a work shirt and a bucket with the initials L.T. on it...
